Student Athlete Attendance Expectations

  • All practices/games are mandatory to attend in fairness to the entire team.
  • Practice/game attendance may be excused due to any of the following reasons:
    • Sickness, doctors appointments, family issues, transportation issues, homework or academic reasons, significant family events (i.e. weddings, reunions, etc), etc.
    • There could be any number of excusable significant reasons to miss a practice or game, however reasons to miss must be limited. All students are expected to attend a minimum of 70% of all team events. Please see the 70% Attendance Rule below.
  • Excusable absences must be communicated to the team coaches 24 hours prior to the practice/game. The only exception may be if a student becomes sick within 24 hours of a practice/game.
  • Parents are expected to update their student's availability for practices and games through the SportsPlus app each week. Please see below for instructions on how to update your students' availability.
  • If a student is absent from school for any reason on the same day as a practice/game, they are not allowed to participate in that practice/game. The only exception to this is if a student is absent on a Friday, they are still eligible to play in a game on Saturday, the following day, given that they are symptom free of sickness for 24 hours. It is still the responsibility of parents to notify coaches if their student is absent from school on the same day as a practice/game. It is not the responsibility of coaches to check with the school of attendance on every day of practices and games.
Corrective Action Due to Attendance Issues
If a student is absent from practices/games without communication to the team coaches, the coaches may request a corrective action plan to the school Athletic Director. It is at the discretion of the Athletic Director and school administration to approve, or modify, a warning or corrective action plan requested by team coaches. In most cases, a corrective action plan may be to adjust the student's minimum playing time in upcoming games. If attendance issues continue, the student may be suspended for a specific amount of time/games.

Note: Coaches must have up-to-date attendance records of practices and games for their entire team in order to request corrective action from the Athletic Director. Attendance can be recorded easily on team pages in the Sports Plus app.

70% Attendance Rule
All student athletes are expected to be present for a minimum of 70% of all practices and games in a season. If any student does not meet this attendance requirement in the regular season, they may be ineligible to participate in that post-season tournament. It is the discretion of the Athletic Director and/or School Administration to decide whether a student is ineligible to participate in the post-season tournament.
